2) What types of materials and items would be protected under the copyright law?

Copyright covers books, journal, CD’s, DVD’s, music, art, etc.

3) What types of materials and items would NOT be protected under the copyright law?

Ideas, facts, titles, names, blank forms, and short phrases are not protected by copyright.


4) What are the possible penalties for violating copyright law?

You could be sued, fined, or charged and possibly face jail time if you do not follow copyright laws.

Fair Use


1) What does it mean when something can be used under the Fair Use Law?

You can quote, summarize, and use things for school activities and they will be protected under the Fair Use Law.

2) How do you know if your use of copyrighted material is fair use?

If it is not all, but just a piece of the work, then it is fair use.

3) What tips should always be followed when using information found on the internet?

Cite the website or person you got the information from.

If someone wanted to quote something from our website, they could take that small part.

Getting Permission


1) What are a student's guidelines for using information from the internet in a school related publication or multimedia presentation?

You should have and extra page telling the websites you went to for your information.

2) When should you get permission to use copyrighted material?

Prior to the use of the material.

Dear Mr. Johnson,
May we have permission to put the song you wrote in our movie, The Great abis.
